Baron of Valforte

History of the cellar

The Sorricchio family of Valforte, originally from the ancient town of Atri, in the Teramo hills, has owned the baronial fiefdom of Valforte since the 14th century.
There are various testimonies that speak of a very well-known and influential family, whose characters have had fame in politics and the arts. In fact, the most important manuscripts containing documents, information and archaeological research on the history of the city of Atri are owed to the historians Nicola and Luigi Sorricchio.

The name Sorricchio indicates a typical sickle for cutting wheat, which is also depicted in the ancient family coat of arms. This element testifies to the close bond of the family with its land.

A bond that has been passed down through the centuries from generation to generation.
It is no coincidence, therefore, that the Sorricchio family cultivates today, as it did then, the same lands that their ancestors cultivated with love and dedication, and with respect for the history that preceded them.
